Science Research Headquarters
All students at the Academy of Notre Dame are encouraged to conduct scientific research. Students in the middle school, as well as members of the Honors Physics 9 and Honors Chemistry classes conduct research projects that are incorporated into course curricula. All other students may elect to complete research projects as part of the Independent Research Program.
A true scientist is able to formulate testable hypotheses from observations. The design of an experiment is crucial in determining the answers to the hypotheses. Through the Academy of Notre Dame’s science research program, students are introduced to the techniques and processes necessary for understanding and executing scientific investigations. Mentored by the science faculty, students design and conduct experiments of interest during the school year. These experiments are entered into various competitions after experimentation is complete. The program enables students to perform studies outside of the curriculum as well as attain a feel for scientific research through practice.
Students from the Academy of Notre Dame will find valuable information regarding Independent Research, research requirements for Middle School Science, Honors Physics 9, and Honors Chemistry on the appropriate sub pages.
