2018 Commencement Speaker Announced
Posted 01/31/2018 03:42PM

Rosemary Connors, NBC10 news anchor and reporter and a 2001 graduate of Notre Dame, has been invited to give the commencement address on June 2, 2018.

Ms. Connors received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She also holds a law degree from Temple University's Beasley School of Law.

Ms. Connors joined NBC10 in 2009 and has been recognized with three Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards for Education Reporting (2013), Continuing Coverage (2012) and Team Coverage (2011). She was also recognized with the "News MVP" award in 2012 by the Delaware County Daily Times and remains committed to covering every angle of a story, making sure that those who are voiceless have a voice.

Ms. Connors lives Notre Dame's mission and hallmarks through community service in the Philadelphia area. She serves on the board of MANNA, a non-profit that provides meals, nutrition, and counseling to individuals battling life-threatening illnesses. She is an active supporter of the Kyle Ambrogi Foundation, a non-profit that promotes education and awareness of depression in teens and young adults. Most recently, she joined the Leadership Council of Ashley Addiction Treatment, a non-profit facility specializing in substance use disorders.

In her announcement to the senior class, Dr. Dwyer said, "Rosemary Connors is a highly respected, award winning NBC10 news anchor and reporter who is among our most distinguished alumnae. We look forward to welcoming Rosemary home to Notre Dame on such a special occasion."

Rosemary's Full Bio Below:

Rosemary Connors is an Emmy award-winning anchor and reporter for NBC10 News. You can watch her live reports weekdays and see her anchoring on weekend mornings.

Rosemary is the third generation of women in her family to report the news in Philadelphia. She enjoys meeting people from all walks of life, who trust her to tell their stories.

“They are counting on me to be accurate and to make their voices heard. It’s an incredible responsibility, which I take great pride in doing. Every day when I go to work, my focus is to inform and serve the community,” Rosemary explains.

As a native of Wynnewood, Montgomery County, she appreciates the opportunity to cover the region where she grew up and went to college. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania. There, she played Division I Ivy League field hockey and had a work-study position at 88.5 WXPN-FM.

Rosemary also holds a law degree from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law. Her study of the law impacts her work daily. She has reported on the high-profile trials of former Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams, Bill Cosby, former Penn State Assistant Football Coach Jerry Sandusky, and many others.

One of Rosemary’s most memorable reports is when the Philadelphia School District was deciding which schools to shut down due to an ongoing budget crisis. Rosemary was the first to tell this story through a family’s perspective by literally walking in their shoes to the child’s new school; it was a trip further from home and through unsafe neighborhoods that worried parents. Rosemary says this story is a reminder that it’s always important to cover every angle of a story, making sure those who are voiceless have a voice.

Rosemary joined NBC10 in 2009. Prior to working at NBC10, she got her start in broadcast journalism as an intern at The Today Show and also at NBC10. She then worked as a reporter and anchor in Grand Junction, Colorado and in Fort Myers, Florida. Rosemary has won four Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards for her coverage of a deadly prison stand-off in Delaware (2017), school closures in Philadelphia (2013), the indictment and trial of Jerry Sandusky (2012), and a deadly gas explosion in Philadelphia (2011).

Rosemary is a board member of the non-profit MANNA. For over 25 years, MANNA has been serving residents throughout the region battling life-threatening illnesses by cooking and delivering medically appropriate meals and providing nutrition counseling. Rosemary is also an active supporter of the Kyle Ambrogi Foundation, a non-profit that promotes education and awareness of depression in teens and young adults. She serves on the Philadelphia Leadership Council of Ashley Addiction Treatment, a non-profit facility specializing in substance use disorders. Rosemary also serves on the Villanova Chapter of the President’s Advisory Council at the Academy of Notre Dame, where she attended high school.
