Career Exploration Program

Save the Date, March 22-24, 2017 for the Spring session of the Career Exploration Program. If you would like to mentor a student or participate on the alumnae panel, please contact Marielle DuBovec Mazda '06 for more information.

The Career Exploration Program has been designed to give the Senior class first hand experience in a professional workplace. Career Exploration Alumnae Liaison Susie McKernan '83 has created a 3 day program that provides students with valuable tools for their future. The first and third days are spent at Notre Dame, while the second day is spent off campus. The Career Exploration Planning committee provides the Senior class with placements based off student survey responses.

Day 1: Orientation

Prior to shadowing a professional, students attend an Orientation Day at Notre Dame. During this orientation, they have the opportunity to learn the specifics of entering a professional environment. From proper dress code to workplace code of conduct, we make sure they are properly prepared to visit their mentor!

They are also presented with their journal. They are expected to take this journal to their mentor’s workplace to take notes about key items that are discussed on Orientation Day. This also allows them to keep busy, in case their mentor needs time for personal matters during the work day.

Day 2: Shadowing a Professional in the Field

Prior to this day, the students know what time to arrive at theirmentor’s workplace. They will have the opportunity to spend either a partial or a full work day with their placement. Throughout the day, they are encouraged to take note of specific circumstances that were discussed during Orientation.  This is a chance for them to be aware of the work environment that they are visiting.

The journal is intended to take notes of likes or interests of the specific profession that they are visiting. They should be prepared to present what they have learned and experienced to their classmates on the De-Brief Day of Career Exploration.

Day 3: De-brief of the Students’ Experiences

The final day of the Career Exploration Program includes a de-brief of all of the students' experiences. At the end of the day, they write thank you notes to their mentors for allowing them to visit their workplaces.

If you are interested in becoming an alumnae mentor, please contact Marielle DuBovec Mazda '06. Sessions of this program are held in the Fall and Spring.
