Bags to Mats - Donate Your Shopping Bags! On April 15 and 16, our Middle School students attended a virtual leadership symposium with our sister school in Canada, The Study, which focused on environmental stewardship and concluded with a call to action for our students to go out in the world and make a positive impact on our planet. Heeding that call to action, the Center for Global Leadership and our Middle School religion teachers will be running a full-year project in 2021-2022 to make reusable sleeping mats out of plastic shopping bags for those experiencing homelessness in the Philadelphia region.
We encourage all students to collect their clean plastic shopping bags and drop them off in Mrs. Moffat's office during the last few weeks of school. Also, we ask that families collect and save any plastic shopping bags over the summer to bring in for the collection in September. Middle School students will be led through the sleep-mat making process next year. Thank you for helping us reduce plastic bag waste and provide a clean and dry sleeping experience for those in need.

Junior Abigail Rowley Places 5th in National History Day State Competition! Last week, qualifying students from regionals were invited to participate in the National History Day State Competition. Congratulations to Abigail Rowley who placed 5th for her exhibit entitled "Breaking Enigma: The Key to Unraveling Nazi Communication." Abby's exhibit examined the importance of Alan Turing and other British intelligence officers in deciphering the encrypted German communication during WWII. Social studies teacher Mr. Quigg shares, "Abby has the most unique project topics that grab the reader's attention. Her creativity and dedication to NHD have always impressed me, and her passion for history truly sets Abby apart from other competitors." Congratulations, Abby!
Senior Research Projects During the last two weeks, members of the Class of 2021 have presented the results of their year-long Senior Research Projects to their English classes. The SRP, as it is affectionately known, is a graduation requirement and Notre Dame's version of a "Capstone" project. It provides students with an opportunity to investigate topics of their choice, and it emphasizes the advanced, multi-disciplinary, academic research skills that are needed for college. Follow this link for a listing of topics. Presentations will continue during exam week. From Monday May 24th through Wednesday May 26th, Seniors will gather in Cuvilly Gym for "full-grade" presentations — an opportunity for 30 girls (10 each day) to present their research to their entire graduating class.
