May 2021 Dear Alumnae,
As we approach the end of the school year, we are thrilled to share that so many wonderful events and traditions were able to occur on campus this spring, including Prom and Spirit Day. On June 2, we will celebrate the Class of 2021 at the annual Alumnae Induction Ceremony, welcoming home seven Alumnae Mothers who have senior daughters.
We invite you to explore all of the great moments within the Alumnae community and we hope to see you at some of our exciting upcoming events, including the virtual Alumnae Book Club with special guest author, Claire Holroyde '97 on June 10, as well as a night at The Reeds in Stone Harbor on August 5, to meet new Head of School, Dr. Laura Hotchkiss. Alumnae in the Spotlight Field Hockey Stars, Tina D'Anjolell '18 and Congratulations to our Field Hockey Alumnae, Tina D'Anjolell '18 from Michigan University and Mia Leonhardt '20 from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, who advanced to the NCAA Division-1 Field Hockey Championship on May 9, 2021!
Notre Dame Field Hockey Coach, Adele Williams, was especially proud of her former players success. "It certainly was special to see Tina and Mia in the National Championship game. They have both worked so hard in an unprecedented year. I enjoyed watching their journey to the final and both girls played an important role in their team's success. I couldn't be more proud of our two 'Nockey' Alumnae," said Adele.
Katherine Wagner '14 Reflects on Education and Shares Perspective on Meaningful Career Katherine Wagner '14 shares the impact Notre Dame has had on her life and career.
"I was chatting with a friend the other day and was reflecting on my middle and high school experience at NDA. The conversation helped me take stock of how transformative it was and how it's been fundamental in my career path. I'm very passionate about mentoring and have been doing a lot of it in my Bucknell network, but would love to have that extend even further back to my NDA days where it all got started.
As an ND "lifer" my teachers played a massive role in developing how I thought about social issues, hard work and the value of women in STEM. I was encouraged to ask questions, to share my ideas and talents and to be a force for good in my community. It is not lost on me that I found a career path that encompasses all of those things. It can be lonely being a woman in energy when the majority of the industry is overwhelmingly white men. Growing up in a strong community of women at Notre Dame ingrained in me the ability to know my worth, to trust my ability and know that I have value in whatever space I am in. It also taught me to advocate for others, and use my abilities and privilege in a way that was doing good. This year especially, I have drawn on those learnings and am so grateful for all of the teachers in my life that helped shape those ideas.
I am a project manager at Resonant Energy. I manage solar projects for affordable housing buildings, non-profits, low income residential homes, and houses of worship (churches, mosques, temples, etc.). What makes the work unique is that we are championing those who are traditionally overlooked or cannot afford to install solar (POC, religious communities and mission based groups). What we hope to accomplish with every project is to create sustainable grassroots change that allows those who are the most disadvantaged to take advantage of the financial savings of solar arrays and help build environmental justice in their communities. We are currently the only solar developer on the East Coast doing this kind of work."
