Global Citizen Scholar Program & CGL Events

Officially recognized by the United Nations in 1977, International Women's Day first emerged from the activities of labor movements at the turn of the twentieth century in North America and across Europe.This is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political. The CGL leads a variety of exercises that aim to inspire our young women to aim high and honor the women throughout history who have blazed a path for them to be impactful leaders. For the past two years, the entire student body has cast their vote for women-owned businesses around the world that are seeking crowd-sourced loans through the platform Kiva. The CGL supports a small loan to the business that receives the most votes in homeroom that day. This is a great lesson in the power of microloans and both financial sustainability and integrity.

This wonderful celebration was started in 2022 by students who wanted a platform to honor their family heritage. Every May since then, the CGL has run this special day to highlight the beauty of diversity in our community by sharing in one another's culture through food, traditional dress, and music. The entire school can sample foods from around the world during our lunch periods on Heritage Day. It has quickly become a beloved tradition at ND!

Each fall, our entire school gathers during Community Time for the annual Travel Assembly, during which the exciting travel program offerings for the year are unveiled! It's an energetic event that kicks off the global adventures that support the mission, values and academics at ND. 

The CGL organizes various activities or events on October 11 to recognize the International Day of the Girl Child, founded by the UN in 2011 to to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world. From guest speakers to social media campaigns to fundraising for a cause that supports girls, our students are encouraged to think, feel, and act for the advancement of girls everywhere.

A new tradition at ND, travel programs reunion day brings together the student and faculty travelers from each trip that made so many memories together and helped each other grow through new experiences that take everyone a little outside of their comfort zone. The groups are asked to recall their highs and lows and share what has stuck with them since their arrival back home.
