Our Middle School is a time for growth and discovery. Students are introduced to the Hallmarks of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, the Honor Code, and what it means to be a woman of Notre Dame. The Notre Dame commitment of teaching young women “what they need to know for life” begins here, promoting the ideals of respect, curiosity, and independence. Our motto - "Fides et Caritas" (Faith and Charity) - is woven throughout our curriculum.
Notre Dame Middle School Highlights:
-
Information skills are highlighted from the start. Students in 6th and 7th grades meet once a cycle to become acquainted with the library portals, software applications (including Google suite), and the technology available to them at Notre Dame. They are given an introduction to the research process through database orientations, instruction of proper citation formats, and use of primary and secondary sources.
-
Project-based learning is key at Notre Dame. Our instructional educational approach allows students to take a deeper dive into a selected topic area, develop a skill set, and present the mastered knowledge. Students participate in National History Day and the Science Fair.
-
Notre Dame offers four language options: French, Latin, Mandarin, and Spanish. 6th graders participate in a survey of the languages to determine which one they would like to study.
-
The Middle School Dance program serves as a three-year comprehensive study of dance, emphasizing styles, skills, and techniques at an introductory level. Students may study dance as a performing art in grades 6 through 8. The Dance Company is a select group of students who focus on a performance-based dance curriculum that offers them education in production, costuming, lighting design, and directing of a dance concert.
