College Counseling

Helping Students Find the Best Fit

At the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, we support students at every stage of the college enrollment process – from introductory meetings with freshmen; to application, essay, and interview preparation; to college acceptance decisions.

Selecting a college that matches a student's interests and abilities requires thought, preparation, and research. Our team of three college counselors, with experience on both sides of the application process, individualize the college search experience to help each student find the right fit.

“I felt very comfortable talking to my counselors -
they helped me figure out how to handle the process in the least-stressful way possible.”

Kate Biedermann ’18, Hamilton College

We are here to support and encourage your daughter every step of the way.

Freshman and Sophomore Years

Preliminary search activities begin during the freshman year. School counselor-led classes in ninth and tenth grade explore social and emotional learning; learning style, personality and career inventories; and activities that connect careers to majors.

Junior Year

Juniors are assigned to a dedicated college counselor and participate in family meetings to discuss college goals. Throughout the year, students are guided through the application process, including college exploration, essay writing, scholarship search, the Common Application and preparation of recommendations. Parents and students participate in college-related programming events.

Senior Year

Rising seniors have the opportunity to participate in college essay workshops and mock interviews with college admissions counselors during the summer. Students meet with their counselors to finalize applications and essays, meet with college admissions representatives, and are supported through the acceptance process.

NCAA Support

Students interested in pursuing athletics in college receive specific guidance from the College Counseling and the Athletic Department beginning in their freshman year. Students receive guidance on contacting collegiate coaches, creating a student-athlete profile, evaluating potential colleges, and are supported throughout the recruiting process.
