Academic Exchange Program

"Something that I found a better understanding of during my trip was the global importance of peace. We read about wars and violence in our history textbooks but I don't think we actually understand how those things have impacted millions of peoples' lives until we [meet them], see their names and read their stories."

Students can apply to one of several academic exchange trips to our sister school countries, earning a .5 “Global Immersion” credit if all curricular work is completed to satisfaction.

These are immersive and academic experiences that build global competencies necessary to live, work, succeed and lead in our globalized, ever-changing world. Students typically stay with host families for a portion of the trip, visit a sister school, experience the classroom setting and participate in special programs tailored to our group.

Trips often include excursions to other cities and/or places of interest in that country. For example, groups in Peru visit the Amazon rainforest, Kyoto while in Japan, Hong Kong in China and Iguazu Falls while visiting Argentina.

"The program helped me learn that I truly value connections with other people. While I enjoyed the trip as a whole, my favorite days were the ones spent at the Seishin school or with my host family. I was able to form deep bonds with these people, despite the slight language barrier, which made it so difficult for me to leave them." -Emily Shank '20
