The ND Cross Country team took part in the Inter-Ac championship meet at Belmont Plateau on Monday, Oct. 18, and were crowned champions after defeating Penn Charter by just one second.

Senior Caroline Stevenson said that throughout the season the team saw a dramatic amount of personal bests made, which proved to them that their hard work was paying off.

“In a sport like cross country, speed only matters when the person has determination and grit. As a teammate, I can easily say that all girls on the team strongly represent these characteristics.” said Stevenson.

Junior Therese Trainer came in second overall with senior Kyleigh Calvert placing sixth, junior Maura Brady placing seventh, and Stevenson finishing in ninth.

“Going into our Inter-Ac race on Monday, we knew that Penn Charter was our biggest threat. After watching our teammates crush it in the JV race, it was time for the Varsity girls to clock in and get serious.” said Calvert.

The JV team finished second overall with freshman Mary Rossano clinching first place and senior Colleen Murray finishing in third place.

“No one was racing for themselves that day. We wanted something bigger. We wanted to win the title as a team and we wanted to come back to ND as Inter-Ac champions.” said Calvert.

Next, the team will revisit Belmont Plateau for the PAISAA Championship on Saturday, Oct. 30.
