Members of the Notre Dame Community gathered at the Hines Rowing Center on Sunday, September 22 for the Blessing and Dedication of the Notre Dame Crew Team's two new boats, "Cuvilly" and "St. Julie." Athletic Director Ben Davey, Head Crew Coach Mike Berger, and ND parent John Livingood all spoke on the great momentum of the crew program and the bright future of the team. The Academy's President, Dr. Judith A. Dwyer, shared her excitement for the success of the program and provided the blessing over the new boats:
Lord of all creation, present with us on this beautiful Sunday, bless these boats that today we christen Saint Julie and Cuvilly. Bless, too, all our student-athletes who will row in these boats.
May our rowers come to know the beauty of the river in these boats.
May our rowers come to appreciate the environment in a new way in these boats.
May our team experience the elegance of rowing, the joy of teamwork and the call to hard work and leadership in these boats.
Protect our student-athletes. Bring them home safely in these boats, named in honor of Saint Julie Billiart, our role model who always celebrated, as we do today, the goodness of God.
After the ceremony the team took to the water for a ceremonial first row. Visit the Academy's SmugMug album for more photos from the morning's events.
