Notre Dame Celebrates the Arts with Virtual Fine Art Show & Sale

Notre Dame Celebrates the Arts with Virtual Fine Art Show & Sale
The Art Show & Sale features close to 1,000 pieces of art, from large-scale paintings to miniatures, 3-D pieces and sculptures, hand blown glass, clay and more, created by about 100 artists. With a variety of mediums and a wide range of prices, there is truly something for everyone, for every room - business or home. Thirty-five percent of every sale is eligible as a tax deduction, and funds generated by the show support the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur’s mission of educating young women for responsible living in a global society.
This year’s featured artist is Jeannie Wolfington, a gifted artist known for her florals, colorful land and seascapes and palette knife and swirl paintings. Jeannie enjoys working with clients and designers to achieve their creative vision, and her original works are in home and business collections across the country. For over 15 years, she managed a graphic design business, providing creative marketing and brand identity solutions to corporate clients. For the past five years, Jeannie has focused on painting full-time, specializing in custom and unique pieces full of color, texture and movement. Jeannie has always had a love of creating stylish and happy environments. Her beautiful artwork “Summer Roses” is the show’s signature theme. This engaging work catches the viewer’s eye with its bright and cheerful floral tones celebrating a warm summer day. As our Featured Artist, Jeannie has graciously participated in school events and was a guest speaker for Notre Dame art students. The committee is deeply grateful to Jeannie for her extraordinary partnership in presenting the 48th Annual Notre Dame Virtual Fine Art Show & Sale.
Another highlight of this year’s show includes three generations of artists in one family - the Kahn family, exhibiting together for the very first time. Read more about Eiko Kahn, acrylic painter; Miho Kahn, oil landscape painter; and Kiya Nicole, whose pieces include hand-thrown, raku-fired and stoneware clay, here
In addition, Notre Dame is thrilled to have a number of current parents, including Christa Amos (P’23’20), whose pieces include oil and watercolor, as well as mixed media combining the qualities of printmaking, drawing and collage; Alicia Asselta (P’25), who works primarily with oil paint on canvas and wood panel; and Andrea Moran (P’27), whose pieces include abstract, acrylic and textured palette knife landscapes; as well as alumnae, including Wendy McClatchy ’76, who is drawn to landscape, seascape, and still life; Susan O’Reilly ’84, who possesses a flair for seeing the usual in unusual ways, with her paintings ranging from extreme detail to whimsy; and Jessica Turner ’06, a mixed media artist who specializes in paper illustration, assemblage art, sculpture and jewelry making, exhibiting in this year’s show. Read more about Wendy, Susan and Jessica here.
Rita LaRue, Chair of the Art Show Committee, shared, "The 48th Annual Fine Art Show & Sale is pleased to present talented artists, including those who have connections to the Academy of Notre Dame, from alumnae and parents or grandparents of current and former students. This, along with presenting a fine art show for nearly 50 years, is a testament to the Academy’s commitment to the arts as an integral part of an education and a community."
Due to the extraordinary circumstances brought about by the pandemic, this year’s Fine Art Show & Sale is entirely online. Parent volunteers selected the artists, created the online gallery and sales platform, and handled much of the public relations and social media strategy and execution for the show. “Flexibility and creativity have been key to our approach, along with wonderful partnership from the Academy of Notre Dame staff and the support of our generous sponsors,” said LaRue. “We are deeply grateful to our artists, who have joined us on this adventure, and we look forward to a beautiful and successful show.”
