Notre Dame's finance class has been busy crunching the numbers and learning what it takes to balance a budget this fall while competing in the National Fall Financial Literacy Challenge.
A number of ND students turned in notable achievements, including Bridget McTear '23 , who placed 9th out of 3,319 total participants, and Rebecca Jackson '23 and Natalie Maye '23, who finished in the top 25.
Each participating ND student received a Financial Literacy Certificate.
The criteria for the challenge included making and keeping a budget for 12 months, six as a student and six as a young professional, building and maintaining a credit score of 690 to 840, and creating a net worth all while maintaining a high quality life score.
A Stock Market simulation was also integrated. Two of ND's highest performers were Emma Dailey '24, with a return of 7.54%, and Margo Kemp '23, with a return of 5.90%.
Mr. Alan Horn, Notre Dame finance teacher, said the students learned a lot and that many of them had great conversations with their parent(s) about what they learned.
"This 'hands-on' part of the finance class was fun and led to practical skills that will serve the students for a lifetime. I am very proud of our ND students," Horn said.
