Following a nationwide search, the Academy is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Liz Willis as Associate Head of School, effective July 1, 2020. Dr. Judith A. Dwyer, Notre Dame's Head of School, announced the appointment on December 3, 2019:
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Liz Willis as Associate Head of School, effective July 1, 2020.
Dr. Willis currently serves as the Secondary School Academic Dean at Oakwood School, Los Angeles, California where she oversees 490 students in grades 7-12 as primary instructional leader.
Dr. Willis also served as High School Dean of Students and as a Social Studies Instructor at Oakwood.
Dr. Willis holds Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Arts degrees in American History from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and History from Loyola Marymount University in California.
In her role as Associate Head of School at Notre Dame, Dr. Willis will oversee all matters related to the Academy's academic area, including College Counseling, Athletics, Campus Ministry, Counseling Center, Center for Global Leadership and School Nurse. The Director of Upper School and the Director of Middle School will also report directly to the Associate Head of School.
In her "Statement of Educational Philosophy and Practice," Dr. Willis notes: "I am in the business of helping to intellectually, socially and morally develop remarkable young people, individuals who recognize and wield their diverse and abundant human capacities to create a more just world."

In addition, Dr. Willis brings both stellar academic credentials and sustained independent school experience to the position of Associate Head of School.
