3 Semifinalists, 7 Total ND Students Recognized by National Merit Corporation

Notre Dame is thrilled to announce that seven students have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation – three Semifinalists, two Commended Students, and two recipients of the National Hispanic Recognition Award.

Rebecca Jackson, Lindsay McBride, and Emmanuelle Pinto have been named National Merit Semifinalists, along with less than 16,000 National Merit Semifinalists out of the 1.5 million high school students who entered the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. They have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. Over 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and more than half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.

Riya Patel and Julia Vaughan Youakim have been named Commended Students, based on their National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test score, placing in the top 3-4% of over 1.5 million students test-takers.

Catherine Molina and Olivia Mulligan were selected for the College Board National Hispanic Recognition Program. The National Hispanic Recognition Program recognizes approximately 5,000 Hispanic/Latino juniors each year from among the more than 400,000 juniors who take the PSAT.
