Celebrating Faith and Service: Mission Week at Notre Dame

Celebrating Faith and Service: Mission Week at Notre Dame
Abigail Merola

The Academy of Notre Dame de Namur recently concluded a joyful and inspiring Mission Week, celebrating the mission and legacy of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.

The week began on Monday, February 2, with the St. Julie Liturgy in honor of Founders’ Day, commemorating the founding of the Sisters of Notre Dame 222 years ago by St. Julie Billiart and Francoise Blin de Bourdon. During the liturgy, two Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur visited campus and renewed their vows before the school community, offering a powerful witness of faith and lifelong commitment. We are grateful to Fr. Bill Gabriel, O.S.A., who celebrated this special Mass.

Founded by the Sisters in 1856 at the invitation of Bishop John Neumann, the Academy of Notre Dame continues the Sister’s mission of making known God’s goodness through the education of young women. Rooted in prayer, service, joy, and a commitment to justice and peace, their charism remains at the heart of Notre Dame.

Throughout the week, students gathered during Community Time for daily events focused on growing in the Sisters’ charism. The ND community is deeply grateful for the courageous witness of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur and blessed to have them as role models.

Thank you to everyone who participated in Mission Week, and a special thank you to our Student Ministers for their leadership in making the week so meaningful.
