Welcome to Notre Dame Summer Sessions! This coeducational program is open to students entering grades 5 - 12.

  • Offerings include academic credit courses and academic enrichment courses.  Individual tutoring is also available.
  • The First Session is from June 16 - July 3, 2008.  The Second Session is from July 7 - July 25, 2008.  Students may participate in either session.  Classes are held from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
  • Applications are now being accepted.  The times of classes and the fees are noted by each course.

ENGLISH

MATHEMATICS

HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH ENTRANCE TEST PREP
Grade 8 in 2008, $350   
10:00 - 11:30
Get ready for the high school of your choice. Students will learn techniques and strategies for success on the verbal section of the HSPT, SSAT and ISEE. Analogies, vocabulary, language, critical reading and short essay writing will be stressed.

LANGUAGE ARTS SKILL BUILDING
Grades 6-8, $225   
8:30 - 9:30

Through directed short reading and writing exercises, at times on the computer, students will develop such language skills as making inferences, generalizations and vocabulary. They will learn how to write an essay of three to five paragraphs. Grammar will also be stressed.

WRITING COLLEGE APPLICATION ESSAY
Grades 11-12 (week 1, 2 hrs.), $175   
10:30 - 12:30

Enroll in this writing course designed to guide you to prepare a portfolio that defines your attributes, unique accomplishments and talents. You will begin by brainstorming and proceed to develop, if not finish, a coherent and individualized essay.

SIXTH GRADE ENGLISH ENTRANCE TEST PREP
Grade 5 in 2008, $225   
9:00 - 10:00

Prepare for the sixth grade English entrance test. Students will learn such techniques and strategies as elimination of answer choices, direction words, and selection and timing of material. English skills include vocabulary, verbal reasoning and reading comprehension (main idea, locating general or specific information and references).

CRITICAL READING AND WRITING SKILLS
Grades 9 - 10, $350   
9:30 - 11:00

A variety of literary genre will be used to generate insightful discussion and written response. Students will write narrative, comparative, persuasive and informative essays. The process and mechanics of writing will be emphasized.

ART

ART METHODS ( 60 hours - 1/2 credit)

June 15 - July 3    $600
Grades 11 - 12    8:30 - 12:30
This course explores a variety of two and three-dimensional artistic media.  Drawing, painting, print making, textile design and mosaics will be included.

TUTORIALS

Individual tutorial sessions are available. Instruction and the number of sessions will be tailored to meet student needs. The cost is $70 per hour.

  • $200 nonrefundable deposit with application
  • Balance of fee is due by June 2, 2008
  • We regret that after June 2 we cannot refund the enrollment fee for any reason whatsoever.
  • If insufficient enrollment requires the cancellation of a course, deposits and fees will be refunded

ALGEBRA I READINESS
Grades 8-9, $350   
11:00 - 12:30

Gain sufficient skills for success and confidence in Algebra I. Students will explore algebraic concepts such as order of operation, simplifying and evaluating algebraic e xpressions, solving and graphing linear equations and problem solving.

HONORS ALGEBRA II/TRIGONOMETRY
Grades 10-11 –credit, $1000   
8:30 - 12:30
This 6 week CREDIT course allows students who have completed Advanced Geometry to accelerate to Pre-Calculus. Students must be approved by Notre Dame’s Math Dept. They will learn, but not be limited to, polynomial equations and inequalities, logarithms, complex and irrational numbers, conic sections and quadratic and trigonometric functions. There will be a final exam and the Notre Dame student must maintain an average of 90 or above.

GEOMETRY READINESS

Grades 9-10, $350   
11:00 - 12:30

Introduce students to the basic elements and language of Geometry through the study of segments and angles. They will also develop their reasoning skills and learn how to write a two-column proof. At all times Algebra and Geometry will be connected.

GEOMETRY WITH APPLICATIONS
Grade 10 - credit, $1000   
8:30 - 12:30

This 6 week CREDIT course allows students who have completed Algebra I at a high level to accelerate to Algebra II/Trig. Students must be approved by Notre Dame’s Math Dept. The course includes the topics of parallel lines and planes, congruent and right triangles, quadrilaterals, similar polygons, circles, coordinate geometry and deductive reasoning. Logic skills are emphasized. There will be a final exam and the Notre Dame student must maintain an average of 90 or above.

HIGH SCHOOL MATH ENTRANCE TEST PREP
Grade 8 in 2008, $350   
8:30 - 10:00

MATH SKILL BUILDING
Grade 6-7, $225   
9:30 - 10:30

Polish up your skills! Review and study whole numbers, number theory, fractions, decimals, and integers. In the fall you will be able to meet the math challenges and be successful in Middle School.

SIXTH GRADE MATH ENTRANCE TEST PREP
Grade 5 in 2008, $225   
10:00 - 11:00 

Prepare for the sixth grade math entrance test. Students will learn such techniques and strategies as process of elimination, working from answers, and plugging in a number. Math skills include whole numbers, number theory, fractions, decimals, simple algebraic equations, geometry, and problem solving. Quantitative reasoning will also be stressed.
