French Teacher grades 6-12

The Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, founded in 1856, is an independent, girls, Catholic school enrolling over 500 students in grades six through twelve, that is seeking a long-term substitute French  Teacher from October 27, 2014 through January 16, 2015.  Teachers contribute positively to employee morale; maintain a professional, pleasant demeanor to all constituencies; maintain confidentiality on school matters both on and off campus; and supports the mission of the school. The French Teacher reports to the Foreign Language Department chair, Academic Dean, and Principal.

JOB DUTIES include but not limited to:

  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of, fluency in, and enthusiasm for all levels of French language, culture, and literature.

  • Engages in meaningful and appropriate continuing education in his or her subject area including, but not limited to course work, conferences, and workshops.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the pedagogy associated with the subject area.

  • Begins all classes with a prayer.

  • Maintains accurate attendance records and grades through School Information  System

  • Provides for safe and attractive learning environment

  • Attends all faculty meetings, staff development programs, departmental meetings, liturgies, assemblies, parent/teacher meetings and other similar meetings as required by the school administration or department.

  • Communicates with parents concerning student progress particularly regarding academic and/or social adjustment issues and maintains confidentiality regarding parental or student issues.

  • Substitutes for absent colleagues on an as needed basis per request of the Department Chair and/or Academic Dean.

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Experience teaching sixth through twelfth grades.

  • Master Degree in French Language, or equivalent, preferred.

  • Experience living in a French speaking country preferred

  • Competency in a language other than French and English preferred  

  • Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with training and experience.

Lunch Room Monitor

The Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, an independent, girls, Catholic school serving students in grades six to twelve, is seeking a lunchroom monitor to perform supervisory duties during lunch periods which ensure the safety of students, and a pleasant lunchroom experience. This is a per diem position beginning immediately through June 5, 2015. The Lunch Room Monitor contributes positively to student morale; maintains a professional, pleasant demeanor; maintains confidentiality on school matters both on and off campus; and supports the mission of the school.

JOB DUTIES include but not limited to:

  • Directing students through food service lines.

  • Facilitating student movement from the cafeteria to other offices on campus, such as the library and computer lab.

  • Assisting the food service personnel in maintaining clean eating areas between lunch periods.

  • Supervising student movement back to class from lunch.

  • Coordinating student use of outdoor space during lunch periods.

  • Managing exit procedures during drills and emergencies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Tasks involve the ability to stand and walk for periods of forty five minutes.

Ability to lift objects weighing 10 pounds.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED is preferred. Previously related experience

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:  

Ability to communicate effectively with students and maintain a positive environment.

Ability to carry out instructions from school administration and food service personnel.

OTHER:

Some duties may require light cleaning such as wiping tables after lunches.

HOURS:  

11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. (variations due to alternate school schedules).
