Dean of Student Services

The Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, an independent, girls, Catholic school serving students in grades six to twelve, is seeking a twelve month, full-time, Dean of Student Services to manage student discipline and coordinate all student activities. Dean of Student Services works directly with the Principal, Academic Dean, faculty, students and parents to ensure a positive experience for over 500 students. The Dean of Student Services contributes positively to employee morale; maintains a professional, pleasant demeanor to all constituencies; maintains confidentiality on school matters both on and off campus; and supports the mission of the school.

JOB DUTIES include but not limited to:

  • Coordinates all school activities in grades six through twelve which involve extracurricular, co-curricular, and activities groups.

  • Compiles, organizes and maintains records of student attendance. Notifies the Principal of attendance issues, and meets with parents for students with excessive lateness and absence.

  • Assists classroom teachers in the management of classroom discipline and promotes a positive school climate that encourages self-discipline.

  • Conducts informal classroom visits using a “walk-through” model to help with classroom management.

  • In matters of discipline is the school’s chief liaison between parents, the community, and the school.

  • Attends and helps plan all school dances including the prom.

  • Keeps discipline records and presents them to the Principal in discussion of serious matters.

  • Monitors student arrival and dismissal

  • In association with the Academic Dean, assumes responsibility for the Administrator on Duty Phone

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:  

Strong interpersonal and communication skills; computer competency including: Word, Excel, Google Apps, and Senior Systems; ability to multi-task.

This is a 12 month position beginning on July 1, 2014.  The Dean of Students reports to Principal.  The ideal candidate will have a Masters Degree or its equivalent and 5 years teaching experience in a school setting. Previous administrative experience preferred. Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with training and experience.

Learning Support Specialist

The Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, an independent, girls, Catholic school serving students in grades six to twelve, is seeking a Learning Support Specialist beginning August 18, 2014.  The Learning Support Specialist is a ten month employee who provides academic support to students with learning differences; works with teachers to develop strategies for accommodation for these students, and reports directly to the Academic Dean.

JOB DUTIES include but not limited to:

  • Provides support to students and their families regarding academic limitations.

  • Tutors students experiencing learning difficulties in the classroom.

  • Meets with students and families to define specific details regarding academic challenges and determines a course of action to be followed); makes referrals to professionals as requested by families and serves as conduit for the gathering and transfer of academic information between teachers and outside professionals.

  • Reads interprets, and summarizes information provided by educational assessment; assists students in understanding assessment results with specific attention to strengths and talents highlight by the assessment; meets with parents to discuss results and course of action; communicates assessment results to teachers.

  • Collaborates with teachers to develop strategies and accommodations that are based specifically on the results of assessment and will allow the student to function at her optimal level of learning.

  • Coordinates and manages standardized testing for students requiring accommodations.

  • Supports teachers in accommodating students who qualify for extended assessment time.

  • Acts as the liaison between the Academy and the Delaware County Intermediate Unit.

  • Provides professional development opportunities regarding learning disabilities, accommodations, assessment, differentiated instruction and other relevant issues to faculty and staff.

  • Maintains current knowledge of trends and legal responsibilities of educational professionals as they relate to students with disabilities; attends regional professional development as appropriate.

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills; current knowledge of strategies for students with learning differences; computer competency; ability to analyze test data are required.

This is a 10 month position beginning on August 18, 2014.  The Learning Support Specialist reports to Academic Dean. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, reading or related field, and and one to three years in a school setting as a counselor or learning support specialist. Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with training and experience.

High School Varsity Lacrosse Assistant Coach

The Academy of Notre Dame women's Varsity Lacrosse team is looking for a High School Varsity Assistant coach for the 2014 season. This is a part-time coaching-only position. Preferred candidates will have recent college playing experience and high school or club coaching experience.
