Opportunities for Service

Social Service Program
The social service program of the Academy of Notre Dame flows directly from the mission of the school which urges each individual “to promote God’s glory…through an enduring commitment to social justice and the needs of the poor.” The service requirement is not mandatory volunteerism but an essential part of the formation of a young Christian woman. Criteria for Social Service
Service at Notre Dame is offered in the spirit of St. Julie and guided by the gospel of Jesus. It therefore requires that our outreach projects be: one-on-one, non-philanthropic, [not fund-raising] direct service to those in need over an extended and consistent period of time. The director of social services must approve any service project proposal. Click here for more information and suggestions.

Service Requirement
A minimum of forty hours needs to be completed before the September of junior year. Click here to read more about the process required.

Gospel Service
There are many forms of service. At Notre Dame, service is rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ. An essential element of the service requirement is the relational [person-to-person]. We want our students to s-t-r-e-t-c-h beyond their known comfort zone and reach out to those in need through direct service.

Romero Center A Retreat and Social Justice Education Center in the heart of East Camden , NJ , A week in June Contact:
Ms. Michelle France

Painted on the wall of the Romero Center, a Retreat and Social Justice Education Center in the heart of East Camden, NJ, are the probing and powerful words, "So you say you love the poor...name them." For one wonder-full week in June, 13 NDA students with their two moderators took up the challenge.

Hear their stories as they name the poor they were privileged to companion!

By learning to BE with others whose stories are not like our own, we are invited into a ministry of presence where God reveals amazing things… “things we need to know for Life.”
