Good PJAS Presentations:
Preparing a good presentation for PJAS is not difficult once you have
finished preparing your backboard display for science fair. The presentation
is pretty much an oral version of your backboard. Here are some suggestions
on how to prepare a good presentation:
- Design your transparencies by making a PowerPoint presentation from
the information that is on your backboard. Don’t put too much
information on the slides – be sure to use large type. Slides
can be colorful, but don’t make them too distracting. You should
definitely have the following slides:
- A title page – include your name and the name of your
school
- Question or problem
- Background information – Use bullets to outline information
necessary for the judges to understand your project and the rationale
behind it.
- Hypothesis
- Materials
- Procedure - Use bullets and be brief.
- Slides that display or outline any special apparatus, instrument,
or procedure you may have used. You can also use slides of photographs.
- A slide stating your independent variable, dependent variable,
control, and constants.
- Data – charts and graphs – you may need several
transparencies for this section. Your discussion should be an
oral explanation of your data.
- Conclusion – Was your hypothesis supported? Sources of
Error, Further research.

- Prepare your oral presentation from your slides. You may print out
your oral presentation on index cards and hold them during the presentation.
However, you should not read the entire presentation. Use the index
cards as a guide or to find your place in case you get lost. You may
not use props of any kind or hand out or pass around
anything during the presentation.
- Schedule time with Mrs. G. to go over your slides and presentation.
- Print the presentation onto transparencies. Be sure to use transparencies
that are specially made to be used in printers or your transparencies
will smudge. (Some students have used office supply stores to have
the slides professionally printed.)
- Practice your presentation!!!!! Be sure to time
yourself – your presentation cannot be over 10 minutes. Ten
minutes is a short amount of time if your project is complicated –
you may have to cut some background information or abbreviate your
procedure in order to stay under the time limit. You can cover additional
information during the question and answer period.
- Relax and enjoy sharing the results of your hard work with others!
