Introduction to DuPont:

The DuPont Challenge Science Essay Awards Program, as it is formally called, is a wonderful opportunity for students to explore an area of cutting-edge science or technology. The idea is really quite simple: choose an area in which you are interested, research the history of and the latest developments in this area, find out what is planned in the future, and write an informative, critical essay on the topic.

The rules for this year’s DuPont Challenge are generally not made public until October 1 of the year previous to the deadline. (Our deadline will be sometime in late January.) However, you should log onto http://thechallenge.dupont.com/ to find out about last year’s contest – the rules change very little from year to year. Check out previous winning essays, read the student information section, as well as the section on rules before you begin working on your own essay. I also have copies of winning essays from Notre Dame students, as well as a list of past topics.

We have had a great deal of success in the past with this contest, and I know that you are up to the challenge!
