Science Fair Expectations

The idea behind science fair is for the student to pose a question
or find a problem to be solved. The student then designs and conducts
a laboratory-based experiment that attempts to answer the question or
find a solution to the problem. It all sounds very scary, but I promise
that I will walk you through every step of the way, and it can be a
great experience if you are open to it!
My specific expectations for you are as follows:
- You, with my guidance, find a topic that interests you.
- You ask a specific question related to that topic.
- You find out more about your topic by researching the topic and
writing a short paper on the topic and research that has been done
to date.
- You develop a hypothesis, or possible solution to your problem.
- You develop an experiment that will test that hypothesis.
- You submit a research plan and necessary science fair forms before
you begin your experimentation.
- You use class time given to conduct experimentation, as well as
extra time, as needed.
- You properly document every step of your project using a journal
and a camera.
- You analyze your data and draw conclusions, either supporting or
rejecting your hypothesis.
- You present your project at the Delaware County Science Fair on
a display board, accompanied by a written paper and your journal.
- You advance to subsequent levels of competition if you are eligible.
- You meet all deadlines.
- Download the Science Fair checklist for a printable list of all requirements.
